BIDING THEIR TIME: images from unemployment
In a city such as Barcelona, where almost everything has a price tag, the unemployed take over public spaces and use their now free time to do things that don’t cost money. When I was without a job I started drawing people, just like me, who were killing time without spending money. In this series of drawings I reveal how people cope with unemployment day by day, which is something statistics can’t really show us.
It consists of 50 drawings made mostly in the downtown area, during working hours. The time, date and place where the drawing was made are recorded on each one.
Each drawing has 2 QR codes. One of them should be at the exhibit and it will show a photo of the place where the drawing was made. The other one should be located on the street site itself and will show the drawing.
The QR codes connect the virtual space to the public space, two places where our social life unfolds, that affect many aspects of our lives and are linked in intricate ways.

OCUPAR LA DESOCUPACIÓN: imágenes desde el desempleo
En una ciudad como Barcelona, donde casi cualquier actividad cuesta dinero, los desocupados se reapropian de los espacios públicos y ocupan su tiempo muerto en actividades que no representen un gasto. Cuando yo me vi sin trabajo empecé a dibujar gente que, como yo, estuviera tratando de pasar las horas sin gastar dinero. Esta serie también es una mirada a cómo se vive la cotidianidad, más allá de lo que dicen las estadísticas.
Se trata 50 dibujos realizados mayormente en el centro de la ciudad, en horario de oficina. El lugar, la fecha y la hora están registrados en cada uno.
A cada dibujo le corresponden 2 códigos QR. Uno de ellos se coloca en el lugar de exposición y al escanearse muestra una foto del lugar de realización. El otro muestra el dibujo y la calle en el lugar de realización.
Los códigos QR conectan el espacio virtual y el espacio público, dos espacio donde se desarrolla la vida social de formas muy diferentes, y que hoy día están intrincadamente conectados y afectan muchos otros aspectos de nuestras vidas.
