NAGUAL: the animal within

The wild indomitable and animalistic side of human beings has always provoked both fascination and fear. Humans have constantly struggled to tame or control anything wild in their surroundings and within themselves. But to what extent have we been able to dominate and suppress our instincts? Where does the animal end and the human begin?

In different Mesoamerican mythologies the nagual represents a person’s link to the divine and manifests itself in the form of an animal spirit. So, no matter how hard society struggles to impose its rules on us, the animal within fights to come out.

NAGUAL: el animal que llevas dentro

El lado indomable y animal del ser humano siempre ha causado tanta fascinación como temor. El ser humano vive en una lucha constante por dominar todo lo que hay de salvaje en sí mismo y a su alrededor. Pero, ¿hasta qué punto hemos sido capaces de doblegar el instinto? ¿Dónde acaba lo salvaje y dónde empieza lo humano?

Más allá de la familia y la escuela, la sociedad nos educa. En diferentes mitologías mesoamericanas existe la figura del nagual es el vínculo que el individuo tiene con lo sagrado y se manifiesta en la forma de un animal guía. Así, por más que la sociedad imponga reglas, el animal de dentro parece revelarse.
